A journey through dementia with mom

Forgetting words

So for about a month or so, I have noticed mom is finding increasing difficulty finding the right words for items in the house, in her head. At first it was every now and then, now it every day, several times a day. I have to find myself careful not to always find the word for her. Sometimes, she gets agitated and says, “No no let me do this.” She is at a stage where she knows some days she has a memory problem and is easy to relate to and other days where , “I don’t know what is wrong with me.”

I withdrew her from The Council on Aging Next Door Project. It was not a good fit. Almost every time it was such a struggle to get her there. Dale would help but he hasn’t been in town or available the last 3 weeks. It had become increasing stressful, not only for her but me. That is a great organization and I hope someday to be able to volunteer there.

Karen comes on October 22, she will stay a few days then all 3 of us get on a plane and go to Nevada. Karen and Ed have agreed to keep her for a few months. We are all aware that may not be possible, but will try. I will stay a week to help mom with the transition and offer “Normalcy” and come home. I will try to keep better notes.
